The purpose of the MOT test is to ensure that your car meets minimum legal standards of roadworthiness and emissions. This means that most of the checks involved in the test relate to possible safety problems, plus a check on your exhaust emissions.
An MOT doesn't involve any mechanical work and isn't a substitute for a service. In fact, neglect regular servicing and your car will probably start to fail its MOTs, costing you time and hassle.
