The Ford Fiesta is the best-selling car in the UK, according to the latest car registration figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
The ten best-selling cars so far this year are:
- Ford Fiesta
- Ford Focus
- Vauxhall Corsa
- Volkswagen Golf
- Vauxhall Astra
- Vauxhall Insignia
- Volkswagen Polo
- BMW 3 Series
- Nissan Qashqai
If you are thinking that some of these are not popular choices with your family and friends (who buy their own cars), you might be right. Private new car registrations have fallen this year and were down by 9.3% in September alone.
The fleet market is the only sector of the UK car market that has grown, and this will be reflected in the best seller figures – many of the above are popular fleet choices (especially the Vauxhall models).
Car Sales Down In 2011
A total of 332,476 new 61 plate cars were registered in September – down 0.8% from September 2010. The SMMT expects this to account for 17% of cars sold in the UK this year, as car sales still peak strongly in new registration months (March and September).
Overall, the new car market is expected to end up 5.3% below 2010 levels in 2011, with a total of 1.92 million new cars sold.
